REVIEWS - Trail Bikes Race Head Motor - by
West Anderson
I
have been running the TB Race Head motor for about 6 months
and I have nothing but good things to say about it. The TB
motor is the best mod you can do to your 50 for under $500.
It makes a lot of power. It is one of the fastest 88 motors
I have ridden. To begin it has a lot of bottom end torque
to help get you out of the corner and then it really starts
to pull hard when it gets up into the mid range rpm's and
then just keeps on pulling up to the 12,000rpm range. Again
I just cant say how fast this motor is, I’m running
15/37 gears and when shifting from 2nd to 3rd you have to
watch it as it will easily pull the front wheel up in a power
wheelie even with a extended swing arm. Also don’t worry
about reliability, as I probably have more hours on my motor
than just about anyone else, and I haven’t had the slightest
hiccup from it. It still runs like the day it was installed.
For $425 you definitely get your moneys worth, it comes with
the race head, aluminum cylinder with steel sleeve for durability
and oversized fins for extra cooling, a high compression piston
to match the head, a aggressive grind high lift cam, and a
20mm carb. Anyone with a 50 looking to get an 88 kit, this
kit should be the one at the top of your list.
About
the Author: West Anderson - I have been riding
dirtbikes since I was 6 years old and have never been off
a bike since. I got into 50's about 2 years ago when I acquired
a 1977 Z50 from a storage garage. Had the Z for about a year
but I really wanted a xr50 bad once I started seeing trick
ones riding around and I found out more about racing. So I
sold my Z and found a used 2002 stock xr50. I rode stock for
a couple of months. Meanwhile, I became a member of PlanetMinis
and started learning everything I could about 50's and all
of the aftermarket companies and parts available at the best
prices. I now have a fast knowledge of 50's, what works, what
doesn't, and can pretty much diagnose any problem that you
may come across. Currently, my bike has a large amount of
aftermarket parts on it and about the only things left stock
are the frame, hubs, engine cases, crank, and tranny. I am
starting to race my 50 as much as possible. Hitting as many
local races here in Florida as I can, and I have done very
well in my first couple of races. I ride and practice on it
everyday and am always trying to find ways to run it into
a corner harder and lean it into a rut further just to gain
that edge.
