REVIEWS - Sik50s Forks
by
Stanton High
I
heard about this company (Sik50’s) from a friend so
I decided to check them out. I’m always looking for
new parts for my bike so I can be one step ahead. After seeing
the BBR SP5’s I knew I needed a new front end setup.
I learned to ride my XR50 with a moto x style bar and clamp,
so I was on the hunt for a good priced, reliable fork, with
an MX style triple clamp.
When I found the Sik50’s forks, I knew immediately that
those were the ones for me. I purchased them directly from
the company because I heard they had the best customer service
for their forks. After a torturous 2 day wait, they finally
arrived at my house. I was stoked! They were so beyond what
I was expecting.
I
set the forks up on my bike. They were a near perfect fit.
The only thing that didn’t line up was the steering
stop. There was a bit of metal that got messed up. The stop
still works great though, without structural damage. There
were also some scratches that kinda disappointed me, but the
fact that the forks come with a brand new axle for the stock
hub made me forget about it. My stock axle was pretty beat
on and the quality of the sik50s axle is way better than stock.
All of the bolts that come with the forks matched all of the
threads perfectly, even better than the stock setup. That
impressed me because it says to me the clamp is made to exact
tolerances, and made with perfect measurements.
Putting
the front wheel on is much easier with these forks than stock.
The spacing is perfect. The kit comes with a new front brake
cable that is heavy duty and is also a perfect fit. New aluminum
bars are included as well. The bars are anodized black, and
have a bend similar to Tag Mini-Play. The bars seem heavy
duty. This kit looks great once installed. I just wish the
lowers were also black instead of the “stock looking”
silver.
In
my opinion, these Sik 50s forks handle the best for the money.
But if you weigh more than 120lb’s and are looking to
jump higher than 2ft you also need the heavy duty fork springs
that Sik 50’s sells. If you’re jumping bigger
than 4ft at 120lbs a super heavy fork oil is also going to
be needed. 30wt is what I run. It’s usually not stocked
at a local mx shop and has to be ordered. 340ml in each leg
is the most you can run, and stiffest you can make it without
losing travel.
I have slammed these things extremely hard on multiple occasions.
They absorb hits so well; it doesn’t hurt like the stock
forks, even on the hardest hits. That makes the bike a lot
easier to ride and much easier to control. One of the hardest
hits was when I slammed into a railroad tie at 3rd gear pinned.
I could have sworn I was going to fold the front wheel hitting
a solid square edge at 35 mph. The new forks handled it perfectly
and I rode away amazed once again.
I cannot think of any reason someone could be disappointed
by this product. The seals are tight, they can be tuned easily
to fit you, and they are relatively cheap. Save some money
and buy a bore kit!

the author: Stanton High has ridden on wheels for
as long as he can remember. In 2003, he discoverd the xr50
and was instantly hooked. Recently, Stanton was in a bad accident
and half his body was burned. "It was hell," Stanton
recalls. But after four months and 13 surguries later he got
back on the xr50 and is now riding harder than ever. These
days Stanton rides as much as he can and is looking for a
job in a machine shop. You can check out some of Stanton's
