REVIEWS - P3 Shifter - by 50ccchick

If you've been into fifties for long you've probably realized that parts aren't cheap and often the better the part, the higher the price. But I recently got to test out a part that is like a breath of fresh air to the fiddy scene - a part that is both quality AND is reasonably priced - it is the P3 Extended Shifter.

This shifter is about 1" longer than stock and weighs about half what the stocker shifter weighs. It is made of forged aluminum and comes in a rich looking satin finish. It looks almost too slick to use, but it's either use it on the bike or as a nice paper weight. I chose to put it on the bike. Installation is a no-brainer. Unhook the stocker, tighten on the P3, and you're off.

I took this new part to the motard races to see how it would hold up. As with any longer shifter, it took me a bit to get used to having more room for my toes to fit under the tip. But that went away after a few laps, and in no time I was enjoying the extra room and the knurled metal tip which really helped keep my toes connected to the shifter. After 3 grueling races the P3 shifter was still in top shape.

Now, I cannot personally attest to how this shifter would hold up if you were to crash and burn bad, but I'd bet dollars to donuts it would hold up as good as any $35-75 shifter out there. Plus, this shifter sells in the range of $15-18. That's right! Good looks, well built, AND only $15-$18. 'Nuff said.

About the Author: Pam aka 50ccchick, your MTTM site hostess- I started riding motorcycles when I was about 5. We had a little Yamaha 80, street legal, that I used to tear around the backyard on. That was, until I got more interested in riding and raising horses. So the motorcycle went by the way side for years until my ex got an old Yamaha 750 at a garage sale and set about fixing it up so we could take rides together. Course I wanted to drive, so after my divorce, I went out and got a Honda Shadow 600, then an ACE 750. One night while watching TV I saw these old people riding around on kids motorbikes and it looked like a hell of a lotta fun. So, I went out and got a fiddy and since then I've been having a blast fixing it up and riding and racing it around.
