REVIEWS - Icon Motorhead Boots - by 50ccchick

I have ridden my fifty with the full length motocross boots on and I hate it. However, I am a chicken when it comes to the thought of having no ankle protection and breaking something. So, I went in search of a new set of covers for my dogs for riding my fifty.

The bad news is that I found there are not a lot of options out there for shorter boots that would be good for dirt and motard. The good news is, there is at least one really good option out there for dirt and motard riding and that's the Motorhead Boot from Icon.

The Icon boot clamps on like a tradition dirt boot but only goes up past your ankles. So, you get a snug fit, without shoe laces to catch on anything and you get the freedom of movement from the shortness of the boot. The boot is also pretty comfy. I got my boots the day of a race and was able to comfortably wear them driving to the race, practicing, walking around the pits, and racing without any discomfort. And this was with no break-in time and on a 105 degree day. I felt pretty safe wearing these boots too. They have ankle plates, toe reinforcement and a solid sole.

The only drawback to this boot is the price. For $180 retail, they may be a bit pricey for a lot of folks to afford. Too bad because I think a lot of riders wearing DC's could really benefit from the added protection of this boot without giving up the comfort. But if you value your ankles, $180 really isn't that much.

About the Author: Pam aka 50ccchick, your MTTM site hostess- I started riding motorcycles when I was about 5. We had a little Yamaha 80, street legal, that I used to tear around the backyard on. That was, until I got more interested in riding and raising horses. So the motorcycle went by the way side for years until my ex got an old Yamaha 750 at a garage sale and set about fixing it up so we could take rides together. Course I wanted to drive, so after my divorce, I went out and got a Honda Shadow 600, then an ACE 750. One night while watching TV I saw these old people riding around on kids motorbikes and it looked like a hell of a lotta fun. So, I went out and got a fiddy and since then I've been having a blast fixing it up and riding and racing it around.
