REVIEWS - Applied Triple Clamp
When
you get this clamp from Applied, the first thing you notice
is that this clamp is solid. There is nothing flimsy about
it. All the corners are machined smooth and the detail looks
good and as with most Applied Parts the cost was reasonable.
I couldn't wait to get this puppy on my bike!
But
that's where my love for this product began to fall off. I
got my other clamp off and set this one in it's place. The
frame bolt was easy to put on, the fork bolts were not so
easy! Applied inset the fork bolts just enough that you can't
really get a socket wrench in there to tighten them! So, I
tried another approach, I took the clamp off again and used
an allen wrench to take the upper part of the clamp off so
I could get to the fork bolts to tighten them. Back we go
to the bike, again the frame bolt was easy and now the fork
bolts were easy to tight down since there was nothing blocking
my socket wrench.
Now
to put the top part of the clamp back on. Here's where I ran
into more trouble. Trying to get an Allen wrench in under
the clamp and between everything else was a major pain! There's
just not enough room there either to really get the bolts
tightened without having to make a lot of small cranks. It
seemed like it took me forever to get those bolts tightened.
The
good part is, once I got this sucker on and my bars tightened
in. I felt pretty sure this clamp was not going to bend or
fail on me. To prove it, I went right out and crashed on 'em
a couple times. No problems. So, although I feel pretty confident
in using these clamps, putting them on is so much of a pain,
I will never want to take them off again unless I am switching
to something else.

Workmanship = A
Design = C - if Applied could
move those bolts out of that inset, I would have no
complaints.
